I'm sure lots of journals are filled to the brim with rants about the new outlawing of adult art here.
Here are some observations I'd like to make from what I've read in the news thread and otherwise:
1. Some people apparently support this change using various phrases like "smut addicts", "I couldn't see it anyhow" and "oh good, now I don't have see *insert name here*'s work again". Apparently these people don't care about being lied to or that the people they're supporting are taking the easy road out. I hope when they grow up (because no doubt they are children either physically or emotionally) they have some limitation put on something they love when they were promised it wouldn't happen.
2. Sheezy fucked up. They tried to hide the fact they had adult art on their site even though their contract stated they couldn't. Once they started with the advertisements, maybe the advertisers complained to the host... maybe users here complained to the host about the ads. But the host found out, and that's bad for Sheezy. A GOOD business would count their losses and find another host that CAN do adult stuff, and just pay off the rest of the contract with the original host then let it die, or resell it to another business that needs it.
3. The Sheezy admin are all children! Rude, defensive, and completely inexperienced. They don't know how to deal with people or adversity. And their attitude towards porn is revolting, as if it weren't a form of art and so they have no moral problems whatsoever with letting it go. "Biased" and "supportive community" do NOT go together, and never should have.
4. It's amusing how much they deny that this isn't DeviantArt. They based the site design around it, the way it works, the fonts, they even stole the community... and yet they're in complete denial of this. I see a lot of promises for "exciting" features to come. Yeah well unless they have someone leap out of the computer screen and either clean my apartment or give me oral sex, I ain't gonna be too excited.
5. We need to make a new place. A community. And it needs to be planned really really well so nothing needs to crop up later to piss people off. There needs to be subscription service, banner ads that are applicable, a print service, freedom of expression (within the extent of the law). Le Eh and others are doing some brainstorming I know. I've spoken with my webmasters. Something will happen, and I just hope that it can thrive too.
6. Oh yeah, it's also amusing that most people's first reactions to "porn" is to mention giant building sized penises, penis nipples and the like. Now, although that stuff radically turns me right off, it's still art. So what would these people say faced with truly tasteful porn? Do they know it exists? Do they know that for some people it's not just an obsession but it's also their way of life, or their means of providing for their families, or just something they enjoy because they are sexually mature enough to enjoy it?
So anyhow, I'm angry, I'm baffled, I'm revolted... but mostly I'm scared. Scared because my husband was finally enjoying doing art so much that he was doing it all hours of his waking day, even to the point of excluding me. And I do NOT want him to lose that passion, but I'm terrified cuz I already see his disappointment and frustration.
Life isn't fair, sure. But you sure as hell don't create a community like this then treat it as your play thing. You have a moral obligation to support those you've made promises to, and if you don't follow through... then you are the worst type of human being that could exist.
A person who looks at gemstones and identifies and appraises them. I'll have to decide in the future if I want to specialize in coloured stones or diamonds! Whee!
